Free STEM Programs for Title 1 Students
We have an exciting and free opportunity that we would like to offer organizations who serve students from Title 1 schools this summer. GSK Science in the Summer™ is a four-hour, hands-on science program led by Sci-Tech Discovery Center educators designed to increase children’s value of and confidence in doing science and pursuing STEM careers for children entering 2 – 6 grade.
This year’s Be a Chemist! theme invites children to play the role of chemists and discover the importance of chemistry to fields as varied as medicine, manufacturing, art and environmental conservation. Students create slime in a toy lab lab, learn how environmental scientists clean up contaminated water, create natural dyes from plants and animal shells, and mix up mock medications as they discover how chemical reactions work.
The Franklin Institute and the University of North Carolina Morehead Planetarium and Science Center partner with GSK to bring Science in the Summer™ to 27 locations across the country. Sci-Tech Discovery Center has been chosen as a location for the past 4 summers with themes including The Science of Space, The Science of Me, The Science of Sports, The Science of Electricity & Magnetism. Sci-Tech is honored to be one of 27 centers in the country hosting the free GSK Science in the Summer™ national program for children entering grades 2-6.
