Museum Educator (part-time)

Sci-Tech Discovery Center is looking for an energetic educator to teach our offsite after-school STEM programs. The qualified candidate will have a Bachelor’s in education or relevant STEM field. Interested parties must have teaching experience working with different ages of children, preferably in a science field. This is a year round, part-time position weekdays with occasional weekend special events. Off-site programs are primarily in the afternoon with some morning on-site programs at the museum. 20 hours a week. Additional availability can lead to additional hours. Candidates are expected to:

  • Deliver onsite and offsite museum STEM programs
  • Pack, unpack and tidy up supplies and spaces before and after use
  • Contribute to Ed. Dept. programming and curriculum as needed
  • Maintain professional attitude and tidy appearance
  • Communicate with supervisor on supply & programmatic needs
  • Use and communicate through Sci Tech email address and Google account
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift approx 50 lbs required
  • Driver’s license with clean record required
  • Clean background check required
  • Technology experience preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred

STEM Museum Assistant (part-time)

You will be providing staff and customer support in many different areas. The following are qualifications required of those that are considering applying.

Party Host (part-time)

Sci-Tech Discovery Center is looking for an energetic individual with outstanding presenting skills, connection with children, and customer service! This staff will host our STEM themed birthday parties for kids ages 3 – 11.

Requirements:

  • At least 16 years of age with reliable transportation
  • Outgoing personality
  • Able to present information in front of a wide variety of guests
  • Able to engage the attention of young children while performing or leading an array of science experiments
  • Prefer prior experience working with children
  • Organized and able to multi-task while demonstrating leadership and individual responsibility
  • Highly efficient in time management
  • Clean, neat appearance
  • Flexible, creative problem solving skills
  • Comfortable with small reptiles, training will be provided

*Applicant must be willing to submit background check and drug screening*

Job Duties

  • Greet party parents/guests and lead them through their party
  • Hosts party experiments for children (may include small reptiles)
  • Leads/assist with food, snack, and beverage passing out, plus cake cutting
  • Sets up and cleans up birthday parties
  • Assist party participants with check in and ensure guests are satisfied with their visit
  • Attends all required training sessions and scheduled meetings
  • Assists with the general maintenance/upkeep of party areas
  • Enforces all rules and regulations promptly and professionally; notifies the appropriate professional on duty staff member of inappropriate behavior of facility users

Pay Rate:

  • 50/hr plus tips

Weekly Hours:

  • Saturday 9:30am – 6:00pm
  • Sunday 11:30am – 5:30pm
  • Within time frame listed, scheduled hours are subjective based on volume of parties on specific weekend
